Baltic Dirty Tanker Index
Baltic Dirty Tanker Index Link to heading
The Baltic Dirty Tanker Index (BDTI) chart seeks to measure the prevailing market rate for freight for all of its component routes and within specific parameters for both the vessel and the routes. See the Baltic Exchange Benchmark Statement for further details.
This chart is extremely important for the oil tanker sector given it reflects the pricing tanker companies receive for leasing their vessels to ship oil. I use the investing.com chart above because this is not a well known index and is not available in stockcharts.com nor most charting platforms. The BDTI is not to be confused with the more commonly known Baltic Dry Index which tracks the cost of transporting raw materials such as coal and steel and is widely considered as indicator of global economic health. See What is the Baltic Dry Index.
